Nilsen´s artisitic contribution to Art Pro Ibsen 2006 deals with one of the plays in which Ibsen addresses one of society´s fundamental institutions: marriage. The Lady from the Sea ends with a couple finding their way back to each other, in mutual respect and understanding, after having gone through the most trying ordeals.
Nilsen´s illustrations adress, in symbolic form, the core of the work, Ellida Wangel´s attraction to "...the terror. The attraction in my own mind," as Ulf Nilsen writes on this picture in Norwegian. It shows a circular disc with tracks, like the grooves of a record - circle after circle producing a hypnotic effect. We can imagine this as a metaphor for our thoughts being forced into a pattern that draws them into the centre of the circle, where they are held captive.
