Tore Hansen interprets "An Enemy of the People"

An Enemy of the People provides an ideal starting point for Tore Hansenīs illustrations due to its clear conflict situations and its somewhat caricaturised gallery of characters. Hansen was intrigued by the field of caricature early on, and had considered pursuing a career as a newspaper artist.

Ibsenīs play, at its deepest level, is about the confrontation between truth and lies, ideals and hypocrisy, and how confrontations are ignited as a result of the meeting of old and new in a small local community that is trying as well as it can to maintain its former privileges by isolating itself.
